HOT IN THE MID-WEST

Tuesday we woke up to stormy weather, but we did not have to drive long in the rain. It cleared up but was hot! We drove through Pocahontas, Iowa.

Our drive was much shorter on this day which made Katie and the Mrs. very happy. We camped in the Winnebago factory parking lot. For free we got 30 amp. service which was a necessity in this heat. We took a walk just before dark to stretch our legs. Storms had been moving north and south of us, but while walking a bolt of lightning and loud clap of thunder occurred causing us to run for our RV.

Wednesday we took a tour of the Winnebago factory. It was quite interesting. We saw many 2011 models being built. After the tour we drove through Sioux City, Iowa across the Missouri River into South Sioux City, Nebraska to our campground, Scenic View City Park which is on the Missouri River.

It is a nice park but it is still hot. The dew is on the grass at 11am. (very humid)

Thursday we slept in and decided this was a good cleaning day. Lots of dusting, scrubbing, washing and miscellaneous things were on the agenda. We went out to eat with Harlan and Judy Woolworth in Sioux City.

Harlan was in Allan's class in high school. They drove us around the area and we went back to their house. They are dog sitting and we got to meet Cinnamon, a 9 year old poodle. What a sweet dog!

Friday we rested. Late that afternoon we met for a gathering of some of Allan's classmates. Allan really enjoyed himself. He had not seen a lot of the people since he graduated and you know how long that was.

Today we went to the Farmer's Market and came back with a load of fresh vegetables. This was held at the Tyson Convention Center.

We visited with Evelyn Woolworth and her son, Doug. They took us on a tour of the new Methodist Church. This is a picture of the old Methodist Church where Allan's dad pastored for a number of years. It was sold and has been divided into apartments. You can hardly see it for the overgrowth of trees.

We also drove through Morningside College where Allan had attended after high school.
