CUSTER AND YELLOWSTONE

While in the Rapid City area and Custer State Park, we saw many different kinds of animals.  I included pictures of mountain goats and a strutting turkey.  We saw many rock formations and visited Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse.  Rapid City is called the "City of Presidents".  They have statues of Presidents on many corners.  We also visited "The Chapel in the Hills" which was a Lutheran church built to look like a Norwegian church that was built in the 1100s.  If you look at the ceiling it is constructed like the bottom of a Viking ship.

Our next stop was Gillette, Wy. where we were graciously invited to park in Dennis and Jan's driveway.  Dennis is a high school classmate of Allans.

As we were driving in Montana we could see snow covered mountains in the distance.  We came upon a rock slide.  There were lots of heavy equipment clearing off the road and hauling large boulders and rocks to some other place.  This held us up about 30 minutes and then we were on our way.

Just before entering West Yellowstone, Mt. we spotted two moose.  It is not a close up picture, but you can tell they are moose.  We plan to be here about a week.  I have this terrible urge to get my old horse curry comb out and bush all these animals with their winter hair half gone.  It probably would not be a safe job though.  It looks like some of the animals have been chewing bark off the trees over the winter.

We visited some of the steam pots and waterfalls.  We drove by Old Faithful but not at the right time for a gusher.  Allan got a picture of the interior of the old lodge.  We also drove to the Continental Divide at 8262 feet.  There is much snow on the ground at the upper elevations.  Someone made a snowman.  He is rather tiny, but look at that smile.

Here is the slide show of our trip so far.  Enjoy.
