Arrived in Billings

Instead of taking the more mountainous shorter route we skirted the Bighorn mountains. It was a gradual change in elevation. More different type of countryside was encountered on this drive. The land was very dry except for areas where they had irrigation canals for farming. They were growing alfalfa, corn, wheat and we think sugar beets. This was the first time we had seen irrigation canals. Apparently they can be full and running fast to empty when they are draining for irrigation. We noticed a haze getting near Montana. We later learned that there were fires in Montanta headed for Yellowstone Park. On this trip we had no truck or trailer problems. We arrived in Billings, Mt. after driving about three hours. We had to park for one night at Emanual Baptist Church which was about two miles from Yellowstone Baptist College, the site for our volunteer work. On Monday we were able to move to the college after hookups were installed. They had been waiting on the electrician to connect the power. We immediately started hanging drywall, sanding and mudding and sheetrock finishing. We are working on a new building which will house the large library with some meeting and classrooms along with computers. They hope to have the building ready in 4 weeks in time for fall classes. Lots of work to be done. The hours are a little longer than our previous job, but they are providing lunch for us. The plans are to be here for three weeks. Weather is warmer but nights are in low 60s.
