Sunday we went to Hope Community Church in King of Prussia, Pa. Another church with FPU. Good worship service. We watched the Nascar races from Talladega, our home track. What a finish!
We have had a lot of rain this week. Monday morning was no different. We don't like to travel on rainy days, but our schedule dictated the move. We had some things slow us up, plus we were soaked after hitching up which required a change of clothes before we left. Allan and Don had scoped out a route out of town the night before because the roads around this area are very difficult to maneuver the RV. We drove about 7 hours to the south of Hartford, Ct. We don't normally drive this long for several reasons, but we had decided to stay overnight in a Wal-Mart so we did not want to get in too early. This was our first overnight Wal-mart experience and everything went well. We got an early start the next morning and was able to beat the rush hour traffic. It still rained on us all morning. We made it to Scusset Beach, Ma which is near Cape Cod by 10am but had to wait for an hour before we could check in. It was still raining pretty heavily and blowing cold wind while we set up. Another change of clothes was necessary. We decided to crash and have hot soup for supper. The rain quit later so Allan walked to the beach to get a picture of a wind surfer because he had seen the sail over the dunes. Unfortunately by the time he had gotten there, she had already packed up and was heading for home.
Today,we headed out to explore Cape Cod as the weather was suppose to clear up but be chilly. The sun did come out. We drove the back roads through the small towns and stopped to eat at a fish house. We met a nice couple, Sebastian and Betsy, who lived on the Cape. They invited us to join them at their table. We had a nice chat. They were curious about our lifestyle and they gave us some pointers about the Cape. We continued on to the end of the Cape to Provincetown. We learned that the Pilgrims did not land at Plymouth rock first, but landed at Cape Cod area and had a problem with the Indians and crossed the bay to Plymouth to set up camp.
We saw several light houses. The beach was beautiful but rather brisk. We saw whales blowing their spouts. Allan tried to get a picture of one jumping in the air, but he thinks he only got the splash. The ranger said they were probably humpbacks, but there are other varieties in the area. The rangers showed us some baby great horned owls. They looked almost full size. The houses are generally cedar shake shingles or clapboard. We saw two windmills that were used in the 18th century for grinding meal. One brave soul was out surfing in the cold Atlantic. We had thought about going to Martha's Vineyard, but the ferry was not running yet. The weather was not conducive for that kind of trip. We enjoyed our day without rain.
