Kayaking

Since our washer and dryer are out of order and we had LOTS of dirty clothes, we made a trip to Rutland to do laundry. We were really shocked at the cost. We spent over $25 to do our weeks worth of laundry. We are glad that we have our new washer and dryer on order. At these prices it will pay for itself in a year.

Saturday we had Alabama visitors. Ken and Judy Conaway, whom we had worked with on many COM church projects had stopped to see us on their way back home. They had been on a project in New Hampshire for the past three weeks. We had a good time cooking out and showing them around the park. They gave us pointers for volunteer work and places to see next year in Oregon.

Sunday we went to church and ate lunch in town. We have found that groceries and eating out is much more expensive here compared to Alabama.

Later that afternoon we got the kayak inflated and launched into Kent Pond, a lake across from the state park. Allan paddled out near an island in the center of the lake that is a nesting area for a loon. He kept his distance so as not to disturb the loon, but was able to observe it through binoculars. He also paddled up the creek that feeds the lake and did a little surfing with the kayak under the small waterfall. It reminded him of the days he used to whitewater kayak.
