MY HARLEY MAN

Got a picture of Allan with his Harley rag on and his hair pulled back.  The hair is really growing.  It won't be long and he will be my Willie Nelson Man in pigtails.  In case you haven't heard he is growing his hair for Locks of Love.

Last year Camp Cedaredge built a new shop and tore down the old one. This is a nice, large and much needed building that I am sure they will get many years of use from. Allan and Dick were able to put the finishing touches to the roof trim. Allan also ran the gas lines for the heaters in the building.

The white building is the game room. Allan, Dick and Glenn worked on the wiring and roofing. They now have an outdoor stage, seating area and a small area where the kids can get under the water fountains on a hot day. This is one of the favorite spots of kids at camp.

This is a farm in the Cedaredge area. I wanted to get a picture of their two beautiful draft horses with the farm in the background, but I never had the camera when they were in place.

We volunteered at Camp Cedaredge from June 1 to July 6. It was a sad day when we had to leave. This is one of my favorite projects. We said our goodbyes and headed down the road to Salt Lake City for a week long Genealogy rally. This was my first time at the Family History Library and quite overwhelming, but there were people to help you on every floor. The first few days were not very productive for me and it was terribly hot outside. Cool in the library, but our bedroom A/C decided not to cool. It would blow hot air which did not help any. We had the front A/C replaced this spring at Red Bay. We needed both air conditioners to keep it comfortable, but we survived. I hope this won't bore you, but I must blog about my great genealogy find. Back in the 70's a lady from North Carolina contacted my parents, telling them she was distantly related and was working on a three volume genealogy research of our family lines. Several years later she wrote me saying that she had experienced a fire in her house and all of her research had been damaged but not totally destroyed. She also had developed macular degeneration and was only able to work a few minutes each day. She was probably going to pass it on to a cousin who was a doctor in the area to complete. Last year as Allan and I traveled to Maine, we stopped in North Carolina to locate her or the doctor. Sadden to say, I found obituaries for both of them. Here lies my brick wall. While researching at the Family History Library, I found her name listed on some microfilm. Boy do they have stacks and stacks of microfilm and I must say in a very orderly fashion. I was pointed in the right direction and much to my surprise I found living relatives that I knew of, but did not have much information on them. I also located 6 generations back from myself. I am a happy Genie. While we were in the Salt Lake City area, Allan and I took a drive to Park City. It was much cooler up in the mountains. Park City is a ski resort. Even though there was no snow, the area was busy and there was lots of activity going on. I am including some pictures we took while in the area.

We drove to see the Great Salt Lake. I was not impressed. It appeared that the level of the lake was down so we could not get close.

This was an unusual house in town.

This is that state capitol building.

While I was hard at work with my research, Allan went out to see the buildings on Temple Square. This is the Tabernacle. This is where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs and during Allan's visit they were having an organ recital.

This building is the Conference Center. If you look closely, you can see a waterfall coming down the side of the building. It also has four acres of trees and flowers planted on the roof. I wanted to go on a tour, but by the time I had a day I could breakaway from my research the temperature had increased to triple digits.

When we first arrived in Salt Lake City and during our trip to Park City the skies were clear, but several days later the area looked very smoky. We learned it was from the fires they were having in Arizona.

Every evening after dinner our genealogy group would meet in a grassy area and compare notes from the day and get to know each other. We went out to eat at a Brazilian restaurant that was a delightful experience. Two nights we had a catered meal brought to the meeting room at the RV park.

Allan was interested in one of our views from the RV park. It is a refinery.

This is a motocross near our RV park. Allan got several good pictures of the guys in mid-air.

On our last night our group watched as dark thunder clouds rolled across the center of the city and up toward the mountain range. We could tell it was pouring down heavy rain and that area became very dark. We got to observe an unusual phenomenon. We saw a bright light glowing at the base of the mountains and were wondering if there was a fire. But gradually the end of a rainbow appeared and slowly grew larger over about a 20 minute period. Everyone got their cameras out because it was so unusual. We are assuming part of the clouds opened up and allowed the sun to filter through. Areas of the mountains lit up and then as time passed parts of the city brightened with the colorful rays. The pictures don't do justice, but it will give you an idea of what we saw.
