GEORGIA BOUND

Our first stop was the driveway of our friends, the DeLongs, who introduced us. John and Sue live in Walnut Grove, Ga. Their yard was in full bloom and beautiful. This was a long overdue visit and we enjoyed catching up on so much. We also visited Dean and Larry Willard who are old friends, too.

Our next stop was Skidway Island State Park in Savannah, Ga. The park was pretty and Katie enjoyed watching the squirrels playing. We drove the truck to Tybee Island looking for the lighthouse but never located it. One man told us it is very hard to find and the sign is small. The sun was starting to set by the time we left there. The island has really grown commercially. I am not sure if that is good or bad.

We moved to South Carolina at Hardeeville RV Campground on Saturday. It is just over the state line. Allan and I took a trolley tour of Savannah that day as I just could not walk that much. It was very interesting and we had a lot of fun. There were several weddings going on that day in different square parks. The streets were beautiful as the live oaks arched over them with Spanish moss hanging down. The azaleas were in full bloom throughout the city. Savannah is noted for having more wrought iron than any other city which was very evident on the fronts of houses and fences. The city is steeped in history as it was founded before the Revolutionary War. It also played an important part in the Civil War. Many famous people have lived in this city and they were pointed out to us on the tour. The Savannah River flows by the city. It was an important cotton shipping hub in earlier days. Now big ships make their port here. On a current note, Paula Dean has a restaurant here called "The Lady and Sons". Apparently, they stay pretty booked up.

On Sunday we drove to Hilton Head Island to go to church. Even though the island was clean and had every store you could ask for, we were not impressed with it. We thought Sarasota, Fl. or Gulf Shores, Al. were better beach towns. It was difficult to get to the beach if your were not staying right on the beach.
