COPY CAT

In this picture Katie is our copy cat.  You will notice she is sitting on our copier.  I have been opening the window beside it at HER request so she can get her afternoon sun.  She has been pacing, playing, into everything and just having a good time in Maine.  I told her we were staying here for three months.  She thought "No Moving!"

We drove to Presque Isle for our bi-monthly shopping at Wal-Mart.  In areas where there are quite a few Amish people many of the Wal-Marts have designated areas with special hitching posts for the horses.  Apparently there are not too many here in this area, but this Amish person took advantage of a pole.

The three guys have been working hard. Rich, who is from Arkansas arrived on Sunday and Hugh and Audry left on Monday morning.  We look forward to meeting Rich's wife, Bonnie, in about a week.

We are having rain about every day.  The temperatures have cooled down in the 60's and low 70's.  We have needed our little heater at times.  I am loving that.

ARRIVAL IN CARIBOU, MAINE

We arrived at Caribou, Maine on Sunday, June 10th just in time to attend the night service.  The church is having a revival which will continue through Wednesday.  The evangelist is very good.  Monday is a work day.  There are two other RV MAPS couples here.  Allan hung sheet rock, put in a floor in the attic and installed insulation and vapor barrier.  I worked two days mudding.  The church ladies bring us fresh baked goodies for break at least 3 times a week and we were invited to a member's house for supper last night.  Pastor Tony and his wife Angela cooked out for us one night this week.  Everyone is such a good cook around here.  So much for the weight loss plan.  Because they are waiting for the electrical inspection, the RV'er took Friday off and Ray our project superintendent drove us around northern Maine and just to the border of Canada.  We had lunch at Fort Kent.  Fort Kent is the beginning of US Highway 1 that runs from the Canadian border to Key West, Florida.   Even though we did not see any moose, the trip  had beautiful houses and fields and lakes along the way  We saw many potato field

 For the last month we have had rain almost every day.  At the start of just a few light rain drops Katie always heads for behind the couch.  With all this rain, she has finally overcome her fear of the rain.  I am sure if we had a very bad storm or hail she would hide, but now she is a brave little kitty.

Now to catch you up from our last post.  We spent 3 days in the church parking lot in Damariscotta.  We visited the towns of Rockport, Camden, Bar Harbor and Bristol.  We got a picture of the light house in Bristol at Pemaquid Point.  These beautiful wild flowers of Maine are called Lupins.  We also saw Fort William Henry at colonial Pemaquid.

We moved from the church to Pumpkin Patch Campground near Bangor where we did our last big shopping and stocking up before heading for the project for three months.  Allan downloaded more books on his Nook at Barnes and Noble. 

MAINE COASTLINE

We left Valley Forge Christian College on Tuesday, May 29th.  While we were there Jeanne worked in the Financial Aid Office and the Registrar's Office.  Allan worked on a/c, installed ceiling tiles, installed a new door, relocated a door and repaired a sewer line.  We enjoyed our time there.  The weather was rather warm with high humidity. 

I ran off a cat almost every night who was looking for a killdeer baby bird meal.  On our last day there the babies were not seen and dad was gone most of the day.  Not sure if the cat got them or dad took them off to be on their own.  They were not flying yet, but had grown fast during our stay.  Mom was sitting on another nest of four eggs.

Our travel day on Tuesday was a very long one for us. (317 miles).  There were many traffic and road work delays.  Katie was car sick or should I say motorhome sick. A stop for diesel was on the to do list and Allan found a place in New Jersey right off the New York interstate where diesel was a little cheaper.  This will probably be the cheapest we will see diesel until we get back home. I got a picture of an 18-wheeler pulling a flat bed trailer with a potato on it. It was an Idaho potato tour.

  We made it to Mystic, Connecticut.

 While camped in Mystic we drove the jeep to Rhode Island to visit the Sea Bee base where Allan was stationed briefly before going to Vietnam in 1968 and 1969.  It is no longer a military base, but there is a small parcel of land set aside for the museum where it was once located.  The quonset huts were from the WWII era.  While visiting there, Allan met several Sea Bee veterans who also served in Vietnam.

Our next stop was New London, Connecticut to visit the Submarine Museum where the sub "Nautilus" is permanently docked after being retired.

Our next campground was in Wells, Maine.  We chose this one because it is close to New Hampshire where we stopped at Wal-Mart and stocked up.  There is no tax in that state.

Today is Friday and another moving day.  Sorry Katie.  We are staying in a church parking lot in Damariscotta, Maine where RV MAPS built their church in recent years.  We drove to Wiscasset to have lunch and view the harbor.

 Allan got a lobster roll which is a whole lobster out of the shell and served on a bun and I got a crab cake.  I tried his lobster, but it was too chewy for me to eat.  Loved the crab cake, my first in such a long time.

 The weather is cool, but temperatures are suppose to drop even more and drop lots of rain.  There may be some coast line flooding.  Lets get out some winter clothes.
