HORSE FIX

Our group wore our red vests to church.  The red coats are here.  Fine looking group.  We are now down to 3 couples, but we have the Marshalls from South Carolina arriving tomorrow.  Allan and I will be leaving right after Labor Day.

Here is a statue of a caribou.  Apparently when the Indians came into this area they found large herds of caribou.

I was able to get my horse fix while in Maine.  Susie, our wonderful waitress at Reno's, invited me to play with her horses.  I groomed and played with them for a little while.  Oh, such sweet smells.

BARN RAISING

Today our group went up the road about 20 miles to watch an Amish barn raising.  When we arrived the Amish men had been at work for 3 hours.

They had accomplished quite a bit as you can see in the picture. It had started raining, but not hard.   The men were all over the barn in the building process.  Some were high on the rafters and others were on the main floor of the loft, while others were bringing in more lumber.  After we had been there for a while the young girls walked up the ramp with food for the men.

In a very short time the men converged on the food at the rear of the barn.

Apparently this group was made up of Amish men from the area and a few neighbors that were not Amish, (they call them English),  The women were in the house cooking a big meal for lunch.  The table was on the front porch.  The table and benches fold up when they are not in use.

This farm is about 400 acres which will be a dairy farm.  The exterior of the house is not finished.  This will be a job that needs to be completed before winter sets in. Generally they don't get snow until November  in this area.

After returning back to the church and working the remainder of the day we were treated to another fine meal prepared by some of the members of the church.  One of the daughters of the youth pastor says "hi RV" or "bye RV" when one of us pass by.  She is a cutie.

After supper Jerry, Carolyn, Allan and I drove back to the Amish barn to see how the job was progressing.  Much to our surprise, it was almost completed.  They had called it a day as the sun was going down.  What hard working people.

UPDATES ON KATIE

I think all of us old folks are wearing out.  Allan and I didn't get to bed after midnight, but we didn't get up until 11:25 this morning.  Missed breakfast so we had a big egg brunch/lunch.  We were really tired.  It is afternoon and we would like to take a nap. 

Allan made a strawberry rhubarb pie very late last night.  We were given the strawberries and rhubarb so it was a pretty cheap pie to make, but good so Allan says.  I don't care for Rhubarb, but it is his favorite.

Allan has been busy planning our route home.  We will make a stop in Vermont to visit with some friends.  We will then head for Missouri for the Escapees rally and then to Kansas City for my genealogy rally.  That may be the long way home, but it should be a good trip.  We won't be leaving Maine until after Labor Day.

Katie doesn't have much to look at out our window, but she is happy we are not moving.  We do get a lot of enjoyment watching her.  She sleeps most of the time.  She is a cat.  When she is awake Katie is into everything.  We should have named her Dora the Explorer.  She rules the MH to say the least.  She is my administrative assistant and helps clean off my desk.  If I am missing anything, I can be pretty sure she has brushed it off the desk with her paw.  She helps me with my exercises.  She sits on the back of the passenger side seat.  I put her "play string" on there with her and she uses her paw to knock it down on the floor so I can bend down and pick it up, thus exercise for me.  We play hide and seek games, too.  She scratches on the door when she wants in the next room, which is every time one of us closes an interior door.  You know the saying "curiosity killed the cat".  Cats are suppose to have 9 lives.  She may be getting close.  Katie is our wild child.  At times she runs full blast through the MH and jumps up on the back of the passenger seat.  Occasionally there must be a malfunction in the jumping process as she doesn't make it and falls down.  Katie goes up to the dash and hides behind the curtain in embarrassment.  She has us trained.  When she meows, we know she wants to get in a cabinet.  She likes the high ones.  Some of the cabinets we don't let her in, but we pick her up and let her have a look.  That seems to satisfy the cabinet urge.

October we plan to work at Springville Camp in Springville, Al.   During that time we will be seeing all our doctors as November will be the month that I plan on having my knee replacement done. This should take about a month of recovery that Allan will have to stay close by.
