YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

Wednesday brought us beautiful weather for our drive to Yosemite National Park. It snowed on Sunday and Monday in the mountains. We waited until 10:00 before getting on the road so the ice would have a chance to melt. They had the main highway cleared of snow. Traffic was not bad except for finding a parking place in the valley and at the entrance where they allowed us 10 minutes to use the bathroom. Snow was everywhere. It was banked up on the sides of the road. The scenery was so beautiful. We had visited here previously in July, 1983. At that time the upper campgrounds were closed on Tioga Pass due to snow. The road is closed now and will not open until late May. We are so glad we came this time of the year. Snow changes the scenery dramatically. The air is cool and clean. This is not the busy time of the year so it makes it more enjoyable. Apparently this place gets really congested in the summer. The waterfalls were spectacular and the granite monoliths of Half Dome and El Capitan were overwhelming. As we exited the long tunnel, the view of Bridleveil Falls, Half Dome and El Capitan jumped out at us as if it had been hiding on the other side. We took so many pictures that I decided to do a slide show.

Bruce and Jenna came over tonight to share their experiences of the Oregon and Washington coastline with us. They had previously lived in Oregon and during that time they had camped in many campgrounds and vacationed in this area. We are looking forward to our travels in the Northwest and using this information. Thanks Bruce and Jenna for taking the time to pass along what you have learned about this unique part of our country.
